Touch controls: what separates smooth from awful

Touch controls: what separates smooth from awful

Nothing kills a mobile game faster than sloppy controls. If there's a delay between my tap and what happens on screen, I'm out, no matter how good the ideas are underneath.

The best touch games keep buttons large enough for thumbs and far enough from screen edges that you don't trigger the OS by accident. It sounds obvious, yet plenty of releases still get it wrong.

Racing games like Nitro District show why choice matters: offering both tilt and button steering lets players find what feels right instead of forcing one scheme on everyone.

When you're evaluating a new game, spend the first five minutes just noticing how it feels to touch it. If your hands are relaxed, that's a great sign.
